Before-
and After-School Academic Programs
As we continue to see further restrictions in public funds available for public education,
the foundation works closely with the school district to identify and fund programs that
enhance the quality of education. This past year, before- and after-school programs
was a recurring theme. Generous contributions from parents and others concerned
about maintaining sound education have allowed us to fund programs including a middle
school chess club, girls self-defense class, and a jumping, juggling, and cycling class.
Artists-in-Residence
Programs
The foundation has worked closely with the Olympia School District in identifying were the
strongest needs exist in the art community. Our new Artists-in-Residence Programs is
currently serving in our high schools and middle school.
Summer
Foreign Language Programs
As the foundations first project the board elected to promote opportunities for foreign
language instruction at the elementary and middle school level. Increasing the
opportunities for foreign language instruction was one of the curriculum goals of the
Olympia School District's Strategic Plan II, as well as a frequently requested program by
parents. Current research supports teaching foreign languages early, when children's
brains are most receptive. The foundation sponsored and partially funded a Spanish
Language Summer Camp during the Olympia School District's regular summer school.
